I'm only two books in but I'm already dreading the end of this series *goes to cry in a corner*. This is such a well crafted softcore mystery novel that every beginner-mystery-reader will LOVE!
About the book
This books begins four months after the first book where Violet has actually decided to stay in Cascade Springs and take her role as the next caretaker of Charming Books. There is the Cascade Springs annual Food and Wine festival going on during Halloween and the Red Inkers (the writing critique group) decide to do a Poe-try reading for the festival. Everything is set up in Charming Books backyard and that's where Anastasia, a fellow Red Inkers member dies by breaking her neck while falling down the stairs. It looks like a simple accident by misstep or is there more?
I definitely liked this more than the first one because a part of the first book was spent in introducing Cascade Springs and the characters. Also the fact that Benedict dies right after we are introduced to him, doesn't let the readers feel an attachment with him especially because we didn't even know much about the man himself. But Anastasia is a character we know about beforehand and that definitely gives the mystery more space.
This book just solidifies my hate for Nathan. If Violet chooses him in the end, I might just die a little.
Definitely continuing on with the series but sadly I don't have the fourth book *cries hysterically* so I might just have to stop reading after the third book.
Ps. I'm SO happy that Faulkner finally got a place in the cover considering he didn't in the first book. Poor crow. Love Emerson (the cat) to pieces.
