Dante's Purgatory
by Dante Alighieri
I think there is a lot of confusion in our culture between Purgatory and Limbo. Purgatory is LIT.
At the bottom there's a beach for the Late Repentent, AKA everyone who sinned all their lives but then when they died accepted God into their heart. A pretty good deal if you ask me. Then there's a mountain with all kinds of fun stuff: elaborate art on the walls and the floor, heavy rocks, protective angels, equality among men, insatiable hunger and thirst, blindfolds, hope, cleansing fire that hurts but does not leave physical marks...and at the top is Earthly Paradise. All throughout, people are singing and camping on the mountain. Forgiveness can be fun!
