3.5 really. I loved lots of different parts of this book. At first, it was the descriptive language that really drew me in. VanderMeer described the landscape and the sci-fi scenes in such a way that made it really easy to develop an image in my head. Later in the book I found it harder, and I couldn't be sure if the language got more poetic, or I had less patience. I enjoyed the twist, even though so much of it was insinuated in the beginning, VanderMeer still kept some things hidden.
