“'I can’t lose you… I mean, use you.’
My heart nearly leaps out of my chest at her admission. ‘Then don’t. Let me love you the way I should have when we were younger. We can create a ridiculous list of things you want to do, in and out of bed, before I leave. But even when I do have to go’—I tuck her wind-swept hair behind her ear—‘I’m always going to be yours.’”

This book feels like a whole other side of Irene Bahrd, but keeps some classic staples of her writing. This story is so emotional and beautiful, while also commenting on the messed up systems of our society (I’m looking at you: healthcare system & mental health support - or lack thereof).

Plus, for those of us who have devoured much of Irene’s backlist (I’m not obsessed, you’re obsessed), she connects some of her worlds by bringing in a couple of our favorites! Overall, this book felt like something totally new while remaining a comfort read. It’s a beautiful story that opens up a whole new cast of characters I’m excited to explore. I loved it!

"'... we both know it’s supposed to be you and me in the end. I love you, Ingrid. I always will.'
It hurts to hear, but he’s wrong. It wouldn’t take fifteen years, I fell in love with him in a single week. And now he’s gone."

This is such an unexpected treat from this author! A fantastic story from the first page to the final scene. These characters will grab ahold of your heart, suck you into their world, and you will ride the emotional roller coaster with them through it all. I loved the world created here at Sapphire Lake (and appreciated the nod to other series!), the commentary on mental health & life with loved ones serving in the military and highlighting the double standard of women in the entertainment/business world. It makes this story uniquely great!
