The Alloy of Law, by Brandon Sanderson

adventurous lighthearted mysterious fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Character
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes

  • I like the themes discussed here, the debate on the theme was forced though.
  • The characters are written like real people. Some are flat, they'll probably be better in future books. Wish there was more diversity though, given how the previous triology was about race. There's no mention of LGBTQ people at all, say for a hint with Reyna.
  • I like the mental damages that the characters take actually represented, and have consequences. Unlike the physical damages that the characters can just breeze through (except last part).
  • The action scenes had a lot of slow-mo movie hero vibes to them. However whenever the characters were in danger, they were immediately rescued. Either by God themself, or some other way.
