Raw: A Love Story by Mark Haskell Smith

3.0

This wasn't quite what I was expecting from the jacket blurb. Instead of a light romantic comedy, Raw turns out to be a black comedy about the current state of American culture. Literary, serious and ambitious Harriet doesn't understand reality tv. Sepp is a reality tv star on tour promoting his best-selling novel, which he's never read. Curtis ghostwrote Sepp's novel and is alternately disgusted with himself for selling out and planning how he could spend the money from his next ghostwritten novel for a reality star. When these characters converge, unexpected and amusing things occur. A little on the crude side, but a satisfying read.
