too shallow and unfocused, and more memoir than advertised. I wanted more insight into the inner lives of women artist who expressed their spiritual connections in their artistic practice, or how spiritual devotion informed that practice, or how spiritual anchoring gave weight to their expressions. however, this book is about famous spiritualists and famous people sympathetic to them, the movement in general and the author's dipping of her priveleged, sceptic toes in the esoteric for a lark. very gossipy and unserious book dancing past the very serious rigor and deep work these complex women were doing. does these artists a disservice, imo
