Two kids dead, and one girl missing. Will Trent is partnered with Detective Faith Michelle to solve the case, but unbeknownst to them, the suspect may just be the last person they suspected of being involved in such a twisted crime.

I really enjoyed this one—definitely one of Slaughter’s best so far. The pacing is sharp, the twists are satisfying without feeling forced, and the characters continue to grow in depth. Will’s unique approach to solving cases makes the investigation compelling, and the balance between plot and character development is spot-on. It’s dark, gripping, and layered in a way that keeps you turning the pages.

If you liked Triptych, this one feels even stronger. Slaughter really shows here why she’s one of the best crime writers around.
