Hummingbird and Kraken by Reese Morrison

fast-paced

3.0

This was not what I expected, it's a weird mix.

On the one hand, it's an interesting setup and overall has enough plot to keep me interested without overpowering the focus on the new relationship. On the other hand, the feelings that develop have little buildup and I did not feel the characters matched up very well.
Geir is an old kraken who has lived alone for a very long time. Declan is on a trip to find himself and stumbled upon Geir and falls head-over-heels. They have two very different personalities, one more talkative, the other more silent and I personally... did not feel they fit very well? Declan completely uproots his life before the story starts but we don't learn much about his past and he does not seem to regret a single decision. Geir has mostly removed himself from other people but immediately accepts and wants Declan in his house.
