I really hated Genevieve. I just wanted to read a cute book about friendship, as I was promised. Instead I ended up reading about a girl and her friend who clearly spends too much time online, and jumps at her friend's throat anytime she has a question, opinion, or isn't the perfect little SJW she is. So stupid. "Seriously??? We can't ever talk about it anymore? If I disagree with you about something I'm not allowed to say so?" "Not about this stuff. No." That's basically her response anytime her friend calls her out for sleeping with a horrible 30 year old woman, or reckless drinking, or quitting the journalistic paper just because some advisor wrote about her own opinions. She also says she doesn't like labels for her sexuality, and yet,,, seems to be obsessed with them. Anytime a guy is white or "cis" or straight she always mentions it. She always brings up how she's gay or whatever too. It's insufferable. Just like so many insufferable people online. Hence me saying earlier that she clearly spends too much time online, because it's the same talking points you hear over and over on there. Go touch grass, Gen. And by extension: the people who wrote this book. No one cares what you look like or who you date. Just live your own life and be kind. Ok, rant over. Don't waste your time on this book. If anyone has actual good recommendations for books about friendships, please help me out. I'm starving.
