The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer
3.0

I'm pretty harsh when I rate things...a 5 is for OVER the TOP. Service that was above and beyond, quality that stood out, stories that left my mouth agape. 1 star is for "I have to tell you how much of a nightmare this was." I guess 3 is for....I got what I expected, nothing more - nothing less.

That's the case of this book. I thought it was going to be a mystery...like Harlan Coben or Lee Child. Nefarious doings, suspicious and skilled characters, violence, good hearts being chastised, evil running amok but now about to be checked. Meh, kinda. But more importantly romance between the torturer and the tortured. It was the connection on the spiritual level. First glance and it spoke to the core of the individual that being kidnapped, stripped, tortured, tortured again, and knocked unconscious repeatedly couldn't erase. OMG-gag me.

But there were twists and turns enough to keep me engaged. Characters that were an odd assortment, the dogs seemed like superheroes, the expenses were WOW, and while predictable - it was good enough.

A solid 3 stars.
