The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

4.25

After finishing this book I was very emotional so I waited to write this review - I still really enjoyed this read. It’s a historical fiction so the pacing is very slow but I think that made the ending that much more impactful. It really highlighted how everything in one’s life can just change at the flip of a hat. There were points in this book where I was mad at every character, which I don’t hate because I prefer realistic characters over characters who are always perfect and well thought out. To have them make mistakes and make bad decisions, makes them more human. I didn’t like the emphasis on how beautiful the characters were, it felt unnecessary to the plot. Same with the love plot points, I think the story would have been just as impactful without it. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful tale of sisterhood, family dynamics, and the indomitable human spirit.
