this book was very mediocre. i can definitely see what it was trying to do: make the reader feel a sense of chaos and unraveling that joaquin is experiencing.
unfortunately, it didn’t hit the mark. i found it to be poorly developed, with unlikable characters, and over-sexualized women. there were way to many moments of the men in the book lusting after women that did nothing to advance the plot.
i also found the ending to be lazy & nonsensical. ooooh & it was all just a spooky story for ghost radio??? what???? it’s like when a child writes a story then ends it with “and then they woke up and realized it was all just a dream” elementary and lazy
i did enjoy pedro pascal’s narration of the audiobook. i’m not sure i would’ve gotten through it without him as the narrator.
overall, this was a mostly disappointing book. while it had an interesting plot, the lack of character development and depth and the disappointing conclusion left me unsatisfied.
