I absolutely love the fantasy elements, political intrigue, and don't even get me started on the grumpy dragons. Good pacing through the whole story and hits good minor climaxes through a few story arcs of about a year.

The romance storytelling is unfortunately where this loses points in my book.

It wasn't any kind of a shock that Violet was overwhelming attracted to Xaden. It was quite literally spelled out. But it made it super hard to believe that Violet hated him even a bit despite the fact that he allegedly wanted to kill her from the beginning. Last note on this, the telepathy was cool before Xaden got involved in it.

Ending was not a good twist. Xaden hiding so much from Violet is pretty awful.
