The Constitution Demands It: The Case for the Impeachment of Donald Trump by Ron Fein, John Bonifaz, Ben Clements

hopeful informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

I've had this book sitting around since 2018 so even though Trump's impeachment trial and presidency have been and gone, I decided to finally get around to reading it. I thought I already had a good grasp of the awful things Trump has done, but I actually learnt a lot. I thought there was a good amount of detail provided for each case for impeachment, and that the book was well-written and pretty accessible. It was a bit repetitive at times, but that didn't bother me massively. It's obviously outdated now, but I also really liked that the authors included a list of practical things that readers could do to move forward the case for impeachment.

My only real gripe was that the human or social costs of Trump's presidency were barely mentioned. I understand that the focus was on the things he's done that go against the US constitution and that they do all have an indirect effect on the public, but at the same time it all felt very detached and I felt the authors could've maybe weaved in a chapter about the very real negative impact he has had on the lives of marginalised people.
