 Ugh . . . I wanted to like this book - I really, really did. I tried so hard. It is a Pulitzer winner and has art historical themes which I usually love. I just couldn't do it, though. I waded through all the grittiness and the drug use. I just couldn't care about the characters. They drove me crazy, and not in a good way. I think the story could have been told in half the length, which would have saved it from being so painful and soul-sucking.
