An Old Tin Can : The first book in a new black comedy crime series featuring Harry Burnard and The Squad! by Bryan J. Mason, Bryan J. Mason

5.0

I wasn’t sure what to expect from a book set during The Troubles of Ireland, especially with a serial killer added in. What I can say is that I fully enjoyed it. Now, I will admit I am by no means an expert, in fact I am probably quite ignorant of the time but I felt that Mason was giving an accurate representation of ‘The Troubles’, and how it affected those caught in it.

For me the best part of this book was the punchy and witty writing. I had moments of laughing and moments of silence wondering what would happen. I most certainly think the black comedy did a good job of allowing a little bit of lightness into what could be an incredibly dark novel. The writing also brilliantly brings the characters to life. Be they likable characters or not, they were ultimately believable, and I think that is the most important thing.

The storyline itself was well paced and left enough mystery to keep us hooked as readers. I would most definitely recommend it to fans of mystery and crime thrillers. But even if those aren’t your genres I think you should give it a chance. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Thank you so much to Zooloo’s Book Tours, SpellBound Books and the author for my copy. My review is left voluntarily and is honest.
