I agonised over what rating to give this for ages. In the end, it loses points because the middle section
from Helen's diary
was just a biiiittt too long for my tastes. It was the only part of the book that started to enter slog territory

Otherwise; a FANTASTIC book! I adore the setting and the characters and their relationships. Sometimes the themes felt like they were hitting me over the head (RIP Lawrence) but it didn't take away from my enjoyment. I especially enjoyed Markham's growth and getting to look back after reading Helen's diary and getting to go ooohhhh that's why!!

A book that was very readable and very easy to pick up because I was thinking about it often
