The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

3.0

Meh. I haven't read a good gothic Victorian in a while, but there's a reason for that. I'm not really drawn to them, so that will be part of the reason for my average rating.

I was, however, drawn into this, and I wanted to know what happened. Unlike other reviewers, I thought Setterfield was good at weaving a story, and as for secondary characters I liked Aurelius and would've liked to have seen more of him.

I didn't really feel the book had much new to say if you've read Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and Rebecca, and I like something new in my books. Miss Winter was way too stereotyped, and really not that interesting. Margaret was a fairly interesting character, but her growth as a character seemed a little lopsided and the ending was rushed.

Good beach read, but not really that much more.
