I can't say I've often found myself reading Pride and Prejudice and thinking, "you know, this could really use a good injection of filth". And that seems to be the crux of what Bridgerton is. All the regency goings on, with some smut thrown in. And to be honest, while I can see why it's become so popular, I don't think it's my cup of tea.

That said, it was easy and fun to read. And despite the above sentiment I did thoroughly enjoy Violet's complete embarrassment while trying to (badly) explain the wedding night to Daphne.

I also enjoyed the characters (the Bridgerton family are great fun), and their back stories were really well done. I was invested in the central relationship, but I really struggled with how Daphne and Simon behaved at various points. I'm not sure if I'll be clamouring to pick up any more in the series; I think I'll happily just stop with this one.
