Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
5.0

This was one of those books that you pick up once in the middle of a supermarket and next thing you know you've bought the book and finished it in less than a day. The second I read about the fiery love story between Alexander and Britney I was hooked. This book was such a lovely comparison to west side story and yet it took on a complete life of its own, spawning two sequels (and possibly a fourth?) that will have you craving for for Fuentes action.

My experience while reading this book was nothing short of exceptional and I couldn’t help but adore all the characters. I’ve watched the youtube music video so often i can quote the rap by heart.

I enjoyed this book from cover to acknowledgments and would gladly recommend this to anyone willing to read a good teen romance. As usual I keep a checklist of FIVE things I will judge a book on so here are the results!

Base Plot: I thought the basic plot was a predictable bad boy meets good girl type of story and yet it took on an entire life of its own. Sometimes a good old fashion classic love story is the best way to go!

Character Design: The character design was out of this world! Alexander had such a sad back story and Britney wasn’t the perfect little princess she had appeared to be in the beginning. Both of these protagonists grew up in unimaginable ways and left adoring imprints on my heart. Every single character was unique and made you fall in love with them in seconds, including Paco, Luis, and Carlos.

Villain/Antagonist: The antagonist was not what I expected, although I can identify all three types of antagonist, social, single person, and inner struggles. What had me reeling the most was how the Antagonist towards the end really came to life while Alex and Brittney fought their way into each other's arms

Plot Twist: I did not see this plot twist coming. It was fast and unexpected and had me crying for days, withering in agony on my couch while wrapped in my snuggie. However, I do feel as though it might have been lacking in volume and there was a lot more Simone Elkeles could have done to create a better impact.

Supporting Cast: What can I say about the supporting cast. FABULOUS! Paco, Britney's sister, Carlos, Luis...every one of them I loved and every single character had their own personality and back story. It was a clever ‘chemical reaction’ of personalities and I enjoyed reading about every person.

Overall I give this book an 8/10 mostly because the book was borderline too predictable and had to many common plot issues that I've seen in other books time and again. HOWEVER This book was still an original piece and I recommend this to any people who adore any book with cheesy hot teenage angst accompanied by a hot love story.
