Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare

⭐️: 2.25/5

From start to finish this was an enigma of a story. There are dozens of characters and yet only a handful of letters are used to spell their names, it’s a dyslexic nightmare. I had so much trouble keeping track of who was speaking, what they did and didn’t do. I can’t even tell you who the villains are in this work, because honestly they all seem suspect, even Mark Anthony.

To be fair I think one must have a basic grasp of Roman history first, something that my decolonized public school education never taught me. And thank you, cause who wants to waste time learning about white-on-white crime? Not I.

I will say if you plan on usurping the powers that be, don’t plan it hastily. Had Brutus and Cassius only thought their plan through they would have known better than to let Mark Anthony eulogize their victim.

My take away from Shakespeare’s Julius Cesar is, in life we must do what we can to never play a hand in our own death’s.
