The Good Sister by Leanne Davis

3.0

This book started off strong. The first half kept me on the edge of my seat and I was feeling all the emotions. But I thought the second half kind of dragged on. Domestic violence is a central theme of this novel, with some explicit scenes, so use your judgment if that's something you can read. I worked in a DV shelter through college and I did really feel like this book gave a powerful voice to victims of domestic violence and offered a sense of hope. And, while some scenes were hard to read, I did not feel like the author exploited trauma for the shock value. It was written very well. I just wish the storyline was a little more beefed up the second half.
