Wolfhunter River by Rachel Caine

3.0

This is the third, and hopefully final, installment of the Stillhouse Lake story.

Even though Gwen Proctor escaped her serial-killer ex-husband and saved her family, she can’t seem to outrun the notoriety that comes with that. Especially the internet vigilantes still seeking to avenge his crimes. Trying to create a normal life for her kids, Gwen can no longer hide like she has been.

Marlene Crockett, from the remote town of Wolfhunter, reached out to Gwen because she is worried about herself and her daughter. When Gwen arrives in the small, isolated, rural community, Marlene is already dead and her daughter is the alleged murderer. Gwen knows that’s not the person Marlene feared at all. Gwen plans to stick around until she finds out who that was.

Gwen's stalkers are closing in, and she soon realizes that a trap has been set for her in Wolfhunter. Unfortunately, for Gwen and everyone she loves, it's easy for people to hide in Wolfhunter.

This was probably my least favorite of the Stillhouse Lake stories. I think it's time for Rachel to put Gwen Proctor and her family to rest. I feel like her story has reached its end. This one was a huge leap in her abilities. I get that she was on the run and had to hide from her serial killer husband and everyone who thought she was his accomplice, but her superwoman skills are a bit unbelievable.
