My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

1.75

Okay so bear with me through this one I dont know how to write book reviews

When I first heard about the concept of this book I was quite excited, but I can’t say it really kept up with those expectations I had. The main concept of the story is interesting, but I feel like so much more could’ve been done with the concept of a serial killer sister. The characters didn’t have much development (if they had any at all that is) so it often felt quite dull.                        It was always the same thing, sister killing someone and not even getting close to being caught. Like sure, the police did try talk to them once, but by then I kind of already guessed they’re good at avoiding suspicion, so those police interrogations weren’t interesting either.  Also it was always “Oh, she’s pretty she’ll obviously get away with it” and never anything else.                   The end was kind of unsatisfying because it ended the same way it began, with her moving on to her next victim, with her suffering no consequences because of her appearance (which is?? such a dumb reason?? Like, I understand pretty privilege but at this point it just felt like plot armor).                                                  As for some of the gender roles in this book and such, I’m unsure on whether to label them as “oh, this is just how the living in this country is” or “wow, this author has internalized issues”

It was overall a chill book and an easy read, but not something that memorable. Decent at best.
