She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement by Jodi Kantor
5.0
Brilliant re-telling of the investigation that sparked the MeToo movement. The authors delve into how they broke the Weinstein story, centring the women who were the victims. The book doesn't come across as salacious; it's very to the point, sticking to the facts and how the facts were unearthed. I especially liked how each person is introduced with a mini-bio about them, giving the readers an understanding of who the person was and what was their situation when the reporters came to them.
Kantor and team discovered even more names than Farrow, and they dug deep into the effect of systemic oppression with their story. I only recently read Farrow's book and the styles are starkly different. Both are important reads, but I find it interesting that 'Catch and Kill' placed Farrow as the lone wolf fighting for truth, with snippets of his life thrown in, while in 'She Said' the reporters are spoken of in the third person and are a team of purveyors of the truth. Am I reading too much into how an affluent white male writer shares his story versus the female writers? Perhaps.
'She Said' also brings in the Kavanaugh case and gives Ford the spotlight. Not enough people give the little guy any page space.
These are important books that bring into focus the injustices of the powerful, Everyone needs to read these.
