jeckie 's review for:
The Fall of the Governor: Part Two
by Robert Kirkman
I received this book via the First Reads program.
Now, I'm a big fan of the TV show and the comics, and expected to enjoy this book. And I did, to an extent. But it left me a bit mystified.
Let me back up. This is the story of what happens after the governor's run in with Michonne. And that story is far more graphic in the book than in the tv show, so if you've only watched the show be prepared for that. It then follows the Woodbury folks back to the prison and through all that happens there. Different view of a story fans are pretty familiar with at this point.
What mystified me is that somehow I felt like the reader was supposed to feel a bit of sympathy for the Woodbury crew. And I just couldn't get there. Yes, Lilly's story is sometime sad, but at this point the fans have been through so much of "these are the bad guys" that it's hard to muster anything other than mediocre feelings for anything going on. Now, maybe I misread that and it really was just supposed to be a different POV, but I don't feel like it added much at all to the world mythology.
All in all a pleasant but shallow way to pass some time.
