My Sister's Keeper
by Jodi Picoult
I tried reading this book years ago but I just couldn't get into. Now that I'm trying again I can't fathom why. Wrong timing I guess but this time I was gripped from page 1.
I'm reading a deep book. Very emotional. A family has a 20 year old son and a 16 year old daughter with leukemia. They found out the daughter was sick when she was 2 so they had a test tube baby for stem cells, blood and bone marrow transfusions. She is now 13years old and gets a lawyer because she wants it to stop. She doesn't want to donate her kidney. This is such an interesting story because I can understand everyone's perspective. I would like to discover God's view. If Francine River's could write something like this. I wonder if we are ever allowed to preserve self. Many families have situations where one child gets more attention than another. How best to deal with that.
I like the voice of Anna. Being in her mind.
Jesse 20
Kate 16
Anna 13
Mom Sara (civil law)
Sister Suzanne 10years older
Lawyer Campbell Alexander. His father is a judge. Has affairs. Perfect. Service dog Judge. Mom calls everyday.
Dad Brian Fitzgerald (firefighter)
My father, a closet astronomer, has tried to explain black holes to me, how they are so heavy they absorb everything, even light, right into their center. Moments like this are the same kind of vacuum; no matter what you cling to, you wind up being sucked in.- beautiful writing.
Isobel moves in with her sister Julia, after Janet breaks up with her after 7years of dating. Older twin. Acts younger. 6 older brothers.
Julia is the GAD. Guardian ad litem
Romano. Last saw Campbell 15years ago.
This family is beyond screwed up.
Kate was in remission from age 3-5.
Father agrees with Anna but would rather not say. Yikes.
The father's love and pain got me crying.
Terribly heart-breaking book. But I think it's nice to relate or kinda healthy to go through grief with the characters.
Excellent book. 10/10.
