I read this after watching "American Fiction." I was delighted by the presence in the book of the entire text of Monk's "novel" instead of one representative scene. I'm sure this is cliche, but the movie is clearly an adaptation of the book and while the book remains relevant today it also reflects its own time period in many ways.
