I am building a love for Emma Cline and her writing style after reading this book and The Guest. I have seen other reviews saying her books (specifically this one) are overwritten and like, yes, they are, but I like that. Her unique writting style allows her to describe the complexaties of girlhood in a way I have never seen done before. The horrors of womanhood creeping up on an unsuspecting girl. I loved it.

The only reason this isn't a full 5 stars is that the 'present day' story line was just lacking for me. I understood its purpose, she is seeing Sasha experience something similar to what she did as a kid, but it wasn't fleshed out enough and just felt like an interruption to the actual story in 1969.
