I liked the book a lot. I thought the story was interesting along with the magic system. The writing was pretty solid. However, I noticed early in that the author loves using the verb “skip”. Teenage girls seem to skip everywhere in this book. They skip into rooms, towards battles, away from battles, to each other, to coronations, etc. They skip A LOT. To the point that every time I read “she skips” it took me out of the story. Once you notice it, you can’t unnotice it. The story also has a lot of similarities to Avatar: The Last Airbender. I actually wondered if this was one of those stories that started off as a fan fiction that got rewritten for mainstream publication. All in all, I liked the book. I’d be interested to read the sequel, and it’s a fun read.
