Invincible: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 4 by Robert Kirkman

4.0

Re-reading this after a long hiatus from reading this series, then off to read the next volume this weekend.

After a long hiatus reading this series a long time ago, I am back and trying to catch up. One of the many reasons I like about this series is the simple basic superhero plot that pays homage to Spider-Man of the 20th century (sorry Marvel past 12 years sucked), the banter that was the norm written by the likes of Stan Lee. Another reason is the consistent artwork compared to other superhero books out there right now, besides the 100+ issues by Mark Bagley with Ultimate Spider-Man, Ryan Ottley delivers a really good flow of artwork and the covers are nice, the facial expressions in this series are good it is better than any of the big two company books. Another thing is the storytelling, even when the main plot is being read there are smaller pieces that can be a start of another arc, which is a classic superhero storytelling. You have to pay attention to the smaller details, I give Kirkman two thumbs up on staying consistent without boring me or making me feel that I wanted to give up with the series.

Overall this book is really good, a great bridge between the previous arc to the next one, opening up many questions, from why did Cecil hired the mad young scientist to create an army, to who was those two time traveling characters who claimed that they need to steal the most important document of the U.S. history to save the future, which they successfully did (see, you have to pay attention). From will Mark Grayson finally will have his half=brother as his sidekick, and what will his mother think about it? to what are Allen the Aliens true mission?. This is such a good series and I do not know why the spotlight is not in this book anymore, I hope the next volumes won't disappoint me.
