The Black Incal by Alejandro Jodorowsky, Mœbius

3.0

Good thing this was a short book or I might not have finished it. I thought the writing was pretty terrible for the first half of the story. I can't say whether it really got better, but the plot got a whole lot more interesting.

Everyone is after something called the Incal, which it turns out can do some pretty amazing stuff. Once it actually makes an appearance in the book, things get kind of trippy in the best possible way. Really that is what turned it around for me. The story follows this bumbling private detective who really has no business being involved with such a powerful artifact.

The art takes some getting used to because it is a bit dated. I think it aged better than the story as a whole though. If someone handed me a follow up to this book would I read it? Sure, but I won't go out of my way to look for it.
