Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver
by Mary Oliver
It took me nearly two years to finish this book, which I think seems fitting. I gave it four stars because I don't like nature poetry as much as I like poetry about people, which made Devotions hard to get through. But for themes that usually bore me, Oliver's poems calm me. Every time I sat down with Devotions, I walked away seeing the world with a little more attentiveness. I preferred her earlier poems (which came later in the book), probably because I'm still young. I wonder if as I grow older, I'll find the poems at the start more compelling.
