Pulp
by Charles Bukowski
It’s hard to rate a book which remains consistently trashy (a half-attempted sci-fi flick with aliens??) up to the last few pages, which then blossom into a writer’s visceral confrontation with death.
I’d rate the majority of the book a 1/5 and those last few beautiful pages a 5/5.
“This can’t be true, i thought. This isn’t the way it is supposed to happen. No, this isn’t the way it is supposed to happen. A huge void appeared. And within the beak was a vast yellow vortex, more dynamic than the sun, unbelievable. This isn’t the way it happens, I thought again. The blare of the yellow swept over and enveloped me.”
