Peach Blossom Debt
by Da Feng Gua Guo
To me this was a book of contrasts, I found the start confusing and a struggle to get through. The characters came off flat and the connections between them, which should have driven the book, came across muted. This was possibly due to inconsistent pacing, and the first person nature of the narrative which meant I was less forgiving for the lack of emotion than I would have been in a third person novel.
That being said, I'm glad I kept reading as the second half of the novel moved slower in terms of plot and allowed the feelings of the MC to bleed from the pages. The ending of the book, while convoluted, was poignant and bittersweet in the best of ways.
3.75/5⭐
