This book is very dark, and though it may seem as a YA book in the first couple of chapters, it really isn’t. Please check out the trigger warnings thoroughly before choosing to read this book.

These are the things I reacted to during my read/listen to this book, but there are more trigger warnings!
Drug use, addiction, self harm, racism, war, and VERY graphic descriptions of how people died, including children, experimentation on humans.

This book is dark, very dark. And I liked it. This is my first ever adult fantasy that I’ve read, excluding new adult. And I don’t know if all adult fantasy is like this one, or this is an exception. But it was like nothing I’ve ever read before. You get attached to a character, only for them to be removed from the equation. Either permanently or temporarily.
The hardest loss for me, personally, was Altan. He was the second person that I allowed myself to get attached to, apart from Rin’s master. I’ve just started on the second book, and I’m looking forward to follow Rin more!
