This series is so good?!?!?! Obviously I'm not going to give any spoilers because the first book isn't even out yet (thank you to Edelweiss and to the publisher for access to the digital galley). HOWEVER. I can tell you that this series takes a fairly common YA fantasy narrative and truly spins it on its head. It's not predictable at all (at least for me).

In this book we are starting to become more aware of the politics of the world and what exactly is going on with the rebels and the royal family. There are some really complex family relationships in this book and we see Kiva struggle with that all throughout it. I can imagine the next book being even more political which I'm pretty excited for.

And also THE. DRAMA. Kiva is really struggling with herself trying to decide who her allegiances are to and it clearly shows in her actions. She is also struggling with various revelations about herself and her family and is trying to figure out who exactly SHE is. The stakes in this book were much higher and I could really feel that in the tension in some interactions between her and some other characters.

I also want to mention that I'm loving that the romance in this series is a slow burn. And I mean sloooooooow burn. I don't think I've wanted two characters to kiss so bad in a while. But oh man every interaction between Jaren and Kiva were just so great and I'm just really rooting for them guys.

Also shoutout to Naari, the best character. She's amazing and I love her.

Anyway, I absolutely cannot wait for these books to come out!
