I love a touch of magical realism in my books, but the mind reading thing was a little weird. It felt intrusive, and it wasn't clear how or if they could keep each other from their thoughts... Was anything private? It was sweet that he soothed her when her mind was in turmoil. But, also kind of uncomfortable?

The plot is crowded with crisis and trauma. Her mother's dementia. His father's neglectful narcissism. Her family's business and looming closure.  His fame. Her best friend's 1/3 life crisis. His mother's death.  Her old heartbreak. Despite their literal psychic connection, I did not feel the romance bloom and grow. It didn't make me giddy or giggle or kick my feet. I read both The Dead Romantics and The Seven Year Slip, and those were charming 4+ star reads for me.  This one lacked the stand-out banter and wit I was expecting. The magic felt mediocre, the romance forced, and the resolution rushed.

Still, I love music.  Once upon a time, I worked in the industry. I appreciate that this novel is the author's ode to music and the impact it has on our lives as well as a special tribute to her grandmother. And I was entertained. It's a perfectly respectable Rom-Com.
