The Map of Knowledge: How Classical Ideas Were Lost and Found: A History in Seven Cities by Violet Moller

4.0

All of the facts of this book are very interesting, but the book itself is pretty dry. Still, I very much appreciate the subject matter of the book: particularly, how the preservation of any books created before the printing press was a huge act of labor and care, and we should be thankful to have any of them today.

Also, I very much appreciated the book highlighting Islam's vital contribution to science, math, astronomy, and medicine (not to mention their hugely important work of not just translating and preserving older texts, but correcting them with new-found knowledge), and the reasons why their contributions were overshadowed and ignored over the last thousand years.
