The Master Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg

4.0

SPOILERS AHEAD -> Definitely better than the first book, but not as good as the second. I didn’t like it as much because the plot was just so wholly unnecessary. I liked the development of the romance but other than that, it just served no purpose. Don’t get me wrong, it was a very good book, just not my favorite in the series.

My short summary is as follows:

ONCE UPON A TIME…

Ceony: “Oh no, the evil guy we vanquished in the last book just escaped prison for no reason!”

Everyone else: “Just let the police handle it, he’s not after you, girl.”

Ceony: “I simply don’t believe you. I’m going to go on a vigilante mission to hunt him down in which I may very well be killed.”

5 minutes later… she almost gets herself killed

Ceony: “Oh no, how could that have happened? Evil guy, were you out to get me after all?”

Evil guy: “No, I wasn’t, but now I am… I guess?”

Ceony: “Oh darn, I guess I’ll just have to endanger my life again trying to hunt you down.”

Everyone else: “No, don’t do that. You’re going to get yourself killed.”

5 minutes later… almost gets herself killed but it miraculously works out in the end and everyone lives happily ever after

THE END

So yeah…

Obviously I thought it was good because I rated it a 4 (3.5 if I could’ve), but the plot left some to be desired. Definitely recommend reading it, though. It ties up a lot of loose ends and finishes the series out nicely, albeit leaving some questions unanswered. (I did think this series as a whole was a little plot holey but that’s ok I thought it was highly entertaining ;)
