The Inconvenient Indian: A Curious Account of Native People in North America by Thomas King

4.0

I didn't really have any expectations, positive or negative, for this book except that I remembered King being a funny author. King, with his sardonic wit, did have me laughing occasionally, but just as often horrified and dismayed by the behavior of white people over our several century long relationship with First Nations People's. Growing up in this country and being surrounded by the ever changing rhetoric of goverment and provincial education doesn't give you a good sense of what exactly is going on–just that it's not good. This book tells you exactly how bad our history has been and how bad it still is without sugar coating anything. This is a history that more of us should know about.
