This book was odd, but not in an entirely bad way. I found it enjoyable. At first, I wasn’t quite sure I would like it, because one of the characters was just so self-pitying it was off-putting. Tbh, I am also a little confused by that character’s goals. The author presents her in many different ways that it gets confusing of her motivators and why she did the things she did. I am unsure if the author meant to do this or if the author got so focused on providing a winding/mystery narrative that this character’s goals weren’t fully fleshed out.
I would definitely recommend listening to the audiobook. It was a great time. They really made the listening experience cinematic with the music and different types of vocal recordings (the podcast and interviews v regular narrative).
Overall, out of the female mystery thrillers that I have read, I would put this one near the top. It was odd, but ultimately the experience of feeling uncomfortable, cringey, in suspense, etc was enjoyable!
