Aristotle and Dante is an amazing story about two boys who meet one summer and become really close friends. It is a coming of age novel that explores the concepts of race, gender, sexuality, adolescence, and family drama.

This book would be appropriate for young adults ages 12 and up. This book has a fairly easy Lexile reading. This might be difficult for younger students as there are big themes about sexuality, race, and family drama (a brother in prison and coping with that) as well as issues that come with growing up and going through puberty. This would be a great book for students who enjoy literary fiction and/or coming of age stories.

I have read this book once before and I loved it so much! I love literary fiction and stories that follow people going through the emotions of life. Whether it is growing up or dealing with themes of sexuality, mental health, or race, I love books like this that show humanity in such a simple and real way. Aristotle and Dante have a very philosophical way of looking at life for being so young and I enjoyed how the author encapsulated everything that the protagonists noticed.
