Heartbreak Warfare by Kate Stewart, Heather M. Orgeron

I never went so back and forth on a rating before in my life as I did this one. I’m fan of emotional books that will tear at your heartstrings and leave its unforgettable mark on you. I think this book itself was well written and structured superbly, grammatically, this book did what it was supposed to do. I actually did find myself in tears and totally in my feelings. But, certain aspects of the story left more to be desired for me.
I know that Katy and Chris went through something horrific and it can be understandable to form a bond through that survival. But, the cheating just ruined this whole book for me. I’ve read books with cheating before and it didn’t bother me but the way it was done in this book completely rubbed me the wrong way. While I could sympathize with what they went through, I just could not get with Katy and Chris’ relationship. It felt ingenious and I honestly felt so bad for Gavin and their son. Was Gavin perfect? No, he wasn’t but this didn’t even feel like a love triangle, it just felt like straight up cheating. I felt like Gavin and their son were an afterthought and the story would’ve been more impactful for me if Katy would’ve been a single mom. Had I read this, I’m honestly not sure I would’ve finished but Tracy Marks and Aaron Shedlock did absolutely amazing with the narration. While I wouldn’t recommend this one, I would read more by both of these authors.
