The Road by Cormac McCarthy

5.0

I read this book in two days; I could have done it in a day if I wasn’t working all the time. I just couldn’t stop reading. I was so drawn in by the journey of the man and his son (who are never named) through a post-apocalyptic America.

The writing is sparse and bleak which went well in a book where America has burned to the ground.

Why did it burn to the ground? I don’t know, there is very little background given on the world. And though I would have liked more, there isn’t, this is just the world they inhabit.

There are some strange abstract observations throughout the book, which are a little strange at times. And the ending was… I don’t know, it just kind of faded away and after speeding through I kind of wanted something more.

But I just couldn’t stop reading.
