Dear Martin by Nic Stone

5.0

Justyce McAllister attends an elite private school and has just been accepted to Yale. None of that seems to matter when he tries to keep his very inebriated ex-girlfriend from driving and he finds himself in handcuffs. While he's been taught his whole life how to react in such a situation he still can't quite believe it happened. School seems like a perfect place for everyone else to debate racial inequalities but Justyce isn't interested. As the racist comments and tensions rise and Justyce is dealt a devastating blow, he finds himself journaling to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to find a way through his anger and desire to find justice no matter the personal cost.

A quick read that I admit I wasn't too keen on reading as it seems sometimes the only way we are interesting in discussing race is when the black characters have some serious advantages. I was wrong. Way wrong.
