This book absolutely gripped me in the beginning. The story of this kid going through a tough home life and then different foster families, trying to survive in any way he can, it was all great. The second half of the book really lost me. The writing was consistently great throughout but the story grinded to a halt during one part and then what you expect to happen happens and there are no surprises or shocks. The narrative choice of having the main character tell you the past while also heavily foreshadowing what happens later killed any suspense. I also disagreed with the ending. The first half of this book was a 4/5 but the second half was a 2/5.
