Rebel Witch

4.5/5⭐️
“I pity the man who clips her wings.”
“If this was weakness, let him be weak. If this was sin, Let him be damned to hell”
“You are worse than a thorn in my side. You are a knife in my heart.
And you are a wolf I can not outrun.”
“It’s been an honor captain.”
I ate this up, licked the crumbs off my plate and asked for seconds. I giggled and kicked my feet and actually cried at this book it was wild.
Book 1 was nothing super special. It was cute with the romance and the will they won’t they, and the love Y (because again, if the boys don’t want each other it’s not a triangle) was a little draining. However… the yearning in this one? Spot fucking on.
The repetitive mind set (I want him but can’t have him, I want her but can’t have her) actually made sense. The stakes for both characters made total sense that they would go back and forth the way they did. Especially during the fake marriage side plot (which was SCRUMPTIOUS).
I love a jealous yearning man and Gideon checked every box I had for it and more.
The plot twist in this was again decently obvious if you paid pretty close attention, but I appreciate the fact it wasn’t spelled out so plainly I felt like the author thought we were stupid.
It’s been an honor captain? Hey that sent me to tears.
Overall this survived the second book plague that a lot of duologys suffer from, and took this series from a “yea it was ok” to a “absolutely you must read”.
The half star deduction literally only comes from the very end with everyone coming together. It felt a little too convenient (how tf did the Acadia crew know where to go?) and rushed. I also got mild ick from the “Elphia the Good” because it felt too wizard if oz-y. And had the movie not come out recently and had I not been a Kansas native who is SICK of that movie and the references I don’t think it would’ve bothered me nearly as much.
