The Hanging City by Charlie N. Holmberg

5.0

Ok, hear me out. It has romance, and it has trolls. Maybe it's a little weird, but it also totally works. I was skeptical too. Just trust me!

Lark has been on the run from her terrible father, who uses her for her unique ability. As a last resort -and desperate for any place to finally call home- she finds herself in the city of Cagmar, home of the fearsome trolls. The trolls detest humans, but Lark's ability intrigues them enough to allow her conditional refuge.

It took me a few chapters to get into it, but once I better understood the world, the caste structure, and certain characters' motivations, I was hooked! I love the way this book explores kindness, friendship, loyalty, love, and even fear and how the way you look on the outside doesn't necessarily determine who you are on the inside.

The ending is so sweet and leaves readers with hope for the future. Another winner in the books!
